No Icons Displayed On XP Desktop

By Puppet at 2009-01-10 08:38:00
If you have a computer running Microsoft XP and it seemingly boots fine after you have gone through the struggles of cleaning off Trojans, viruses, malware, spyware, etc., but there are no desktop icons displayed on the desktop. Check this post from regarding another possible cause to the problem. I had a system brought to me after another person was working on cleaning the computer desktop of various miscreant softwares like Trojans, viruses, malware, etc.

After a long battle with the computer he was able to get it cleaned to the point where additional scans of the computer were not finding anything else on the computer that could be causing it to not show the desktop icons. Here's the kicker, explorer.exe was not running at all on the computer. A quick check with task manager showed that explorer.exe wasn't loaded. If an attempt was made to load the program through a command prompt or by starting windows explorer using task manager, Windows XP would simply say the file cannot be found. Looking at the directory that explorer.exe normally is located c:\windows\system32)verified that the file was indeed there and the correct date and size. Explorer would siomply not load with the wiedest of errors stating the it cannot be found.

Check this blog site for a solution that may help you too. No it's not software you have to download and run and it is just free information. Over 100 people who have commented on the solution are happy they found the post.

explorer.exe won't run, no desktop icons
