Microsoft Exchange 2007 Running on a Single Server

By Puppet at 2008-09-13 19:11:30

One of the question I'm hearing asked often is whether Microsoft Exchange 2007 can run on a single server computer or does it need more than one seperate hardware box. The answer to this question is yes. I installed all roles of an Exchange 2007 deployment on the same server. Although Microsoft I believe did an excellent job to back their great decision to allow for the splitting up of various functions of their industry wide de-facto standard messaging system, all roles of an Exchange 2007 deployment can indeed operate on a single server.

The five Exchange 2007 Server Roles are as follows:

· Mailbox Server Role
· Client Access Server (CAS) role
· Hub Transport Server (HTS) role
· Edge Transport role
· Unified Messaging

Hey, thanks for the short post getting to the point that Microsoft Exchange 2007, even though the roles can be installed on different physical server, can all be installed and function successfully on one server.
